In the late 1800'S, many families attended worship services in neighboring churches. A desire began to grow in the hearts of men and women in this area of Newton County, MS, to have a place of worship in their midst. Therefore on September 10, 1889, by the request of a number of brothers and sisters in Christ, a presbytery convened at the Brand School House for the purpose of constituting a regular Baptist church named Hopewell.

We today are reminded of our heritage. We’re reminded of the faithful and Godly who sacrificed that others coming after might have a strong base upon which to build. They had a vision and, trusting in God, they accomplished His will. So has it been with each generation since.  Let us not fail as we view the price which has been paid for our establishment and continuation as a church. Let us have the same vision, faith, and love for the Lord which has pressed each generation before.

Stand on the Rock and hold forth the Word of Life that others may know this same Lord. “Jesus of Nazareth”.
